The site reports that the new Will Smith/Joel Edgerton police thriller Bright will be directed by Ayer, and that both he and Smith are slipping the movie into their schedules before a planned 2017 shoot for a sequel to August's DC supervillain film Suicide Squad.
Bright comes from a script by Max Landis, who's currently writing DC Comics's Superman: American Alien miniseries. His most recent feature film outing, American Ultra, starred Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice villain Jesse Eisenberg.
Ayer is shopping the project around, although it seems likely that it will land at Warner Bros., who have strong relationships with Ayer and Smith, and could maintain the Suicide Squad schedule better if two of their key players are working with the studio in between installments.
