Star Trek

Following previous rumors that he was a frontrunner for the job, Roberto Orci has been named as director of Star Trek 3 by Paramount Pictures and Skydance, according to Variety. J.J. Abrams, who directed the first two films in the rebooted series, now has his hands full directed Star Wars Episode VII. Orci, who is co-writing the script for Star Trek 3, has been campaigning to get the job ever since it became open. Abrams will return as a producer on the film. Orci just recently split with his writing and production partner, Alex Kurtzman, so that they could pursue individual film projects (though they still collaborate on television work). Star Trek 3 will be Orci's directorial debut. The official title, release date, and plot summary for Star Trek 3 have yet to be revealed. The core cast members from the previous reboot films, including Chris Pine as James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, are expected to return.
