Last week, The Arcade Fire released a new video for their song "We Exist," featuring The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield. And shortly thereafter it came under fire. Apparently intended to call attention to gender dysmorphia, the video shows Garfield's character struggling to come to terms with gender roles...but Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace objected to Garfield's casting in the role, tweeting at the band "maybe when making a video for a song called 'We Exist' you should get an actual 'Trans' actor instead of Spider-Man?" The Arcade Fire issued a response shortly thereafter, with Win Butler saying in part, "For a gay kid in Jamaica to see the actor who played Spider-Man in that role is pretty damn powerful, in my opinion."
