The Hunger Games Catching Fire Box Office

As we reported last night, box office projections for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire are rapidly rising. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire appears to be one of the rare sequels that is actually better than the original, and the film has been earning rave reviews from critics. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiered in theaters across the U.S. in late night showing on Thursday night, starting at 8 PM. For its opening night box office, The Hunger Games pulled in an amazing 25.25 million in the United States. By comparison, the first Hunger Games movie took in $19.7 million on its opening night, and Iron Man 3 took in $15.6 million on its opening night earlier this year. With such a strong start, most are now projecting that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will have a $170 million to $180 million opening weekend.
