In an interview with MTV News, Argo director Ben Affleck discussed his feelings on superhero movies, Daredevil and his rumored involvement with Warner Brothers's rumored Justice League film adaptation. What sticks out the most is a quote that appears to suggest he may have been offered a second chance to play Daredevil when David Slade and/or Joe Carnahan were working on the project for Fox. "I had a negative experience with the one comic book I liked, it was just a movie that didn't work," Affleck said when asked if he would consider a comic book movie role in the future. "It's such a shame, because, first of all, Daredevil [is] a great book, great idea, and then right after that, they figured out that it was better to make the movies good, and then they started making them cool and investing in them. I felt like I was in the 1930s with that outfit, the trousers: 'Hey, chum, hold up there! This fella's trying to rob a bank!' It was a drag, but I did love it as a kid, and they're rebooting it. I got contacted about it, and I was like, 'That wouldn't be a reboot [if I was involved],' but I really hope they do a good job, because that's a great property and deserves something really, really good," he continued, adding that we shouldn't cross his name off any prospective superhero movie lists just yet." Now, certainly he could be suggesting that he was contacted by a member of the press or someone else who just wondered idly whether he would be involved with the rebooted franchise, but it did seem a bit odd that, given the film's poor reputation, Joe Carnahan featured footage from the Affleck Daredevil film so heavily in his sizzle reel for the reboot. Perhaps he was entertaining the possibility of trying to prove it was a failure of the script and/or filmmakers, and not necessarily poor casting, that led to Daredevil's failure? Check out the interview below for this and more.
