Charles Xavier and Cerebro

One of the ongoing questions that fans have had about X-Men: Days of Future Past concerns how Charles Xavier can walk again after losing the use of his legs in X-Men: First Class. A new clip released by Twentieth Century Fox has revealed the answer. In the clip, Magneto asks Xavier how he lost his powers. Xavier reveals that he is receiving treatment for his spine, but that the treatment alters his DNA and suppresses his powers. Essentially, Xavier is trading his mutant gift for the ability to walk. Also revealed in the clip is the reason why so many characters from X-Men: First Class are absent from the sequel. Magneto lists several of those mutant characters – Angel, Azazel, Emma Frost, and Banshee – and accuses Xavier of abandoning them when he should have been protecting them, suggesting that those characters are either dead or, at best, imprisoned. Previous clips and promotional materials for the film have shown a room with a collection of mutant artifacts, including a First Class uniform and Angel's wings. This seems to confirm that nobody got those items by simply asking. X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to theaters May 23.
