is off to stellar start at the box office, bringing in $8.1 million in its opening night. That puts it right on track for a $100 million dollar box office haul over the course of the long Memorial Day weekend. This isn't the largest opening night gross we've seen so far this year. Godzilla, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier all brought in significantly higher numbers in their first night at theaters. It's worth noting, however, that those movies had more and earlier showings than X-Men: Days of Future Past, with opening night showing beginning as early as 7 or 8 p.m. X-Men: Days of Future Past only began playing at 10 p.m. It's possible that the studios didn't feel the need for as many opening night showings when they know fans will have a plenty of chances to see the film over the holiday weekend. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, the X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants. X-Men: Days of Future Past is now playing in theaters.
