Mafia III will focus on Lincoln Clay's revenge driven mission, but the difficulty of completing that mission will depend on how much legwork you are willing to do around the city.

That's because to take down the various criminal rackets around the city, you'll need to start at the lowest place on the totem pole and work your way up (via Gamespot). Hitting each racket ring where they live and taking out key people in the organization's hierarchy will make the endgame that much easier to achieve. These key people are called enforcers, and Executive Producer Denby Grace gave players some insight into these mechanics.

"Each criminal racket within Mafia III is made up of various different, differing objectives. All of the open world activities in the game and quests and missions are all linked to the main narrative of this criminal racket. The player picks and chooses which ones they want to complete in order to do enough damage to that racket, lure that hideout boss out to defend his turf, so to speak."

Once you do enough damage to the business with your smaller hits, you'll end up luring out the one who runs that racket. These Enforcers are incredibly important to the business, and that's when the real damage is done. Taking them out isn't necessary, however, but it could come back to bite you, with Grace adding: "The enforcers that Lincoln has not taken down at that point will actually fall back into the hideout, in turn making that hideout much much harder to sort of take on."

Mafia III launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 7th.
