The Chair, a new feature film based on the Alterna Comics graphic novel of the same name, successfully met its initial funding goal on Kickstarter yesterday.

The film, which is budgeted at $300,000, is supplementing that with as much as they can generate via crowdfunding. It currently sits at just under $42,000. A previous Kickstarter had aimed for the full $300,000, and generated over $100,000 before they cancelled it to restart with a more modest goal.

The Chair follows the story of Richard Sullivan, an innocent man struggling to escape execution on death row. Witnessing the torture and murder of his fellow inmates at the hand of the prison's sadistic and psychotic Warden, Sullivan decides that the only way to survive is to fight back. But as he matches the savagery and brutality occurring in the prison, Sullivan is forced to come face to face with his own sanity.

The film is directed by Chad Ferrin with director of Photography Dave DeFino; the teaser features Bill Oberst Jr. as The Warden.

Also starring in the film are Eric Roberts as Murphy, a "brutal and sarcastic" prison guard who terrorizes Sullivan. Derrick Damions plays another guard named Simmons, Jacob Banser as an inmate nicknamed Bones. Zach Galligan and Kyle Hester have been cast as prison guards Riley and Bowen, respectively. Ezra Buzzington, rumored before to play the part of the insane and rambling inmate, Tudley, has now been officially cast. Kin Shriner (the voice of Green Arrow in the Justice League animated series) has been cast as Officer Oliver, the officer that arrests main character Richard Sullivan.
