An Estimated $900 Billion Has Been Spent Rescuing Matt Damon's Characters in Movies

One thing we often don't think of when watching a movie is how much the characters are spending on their cinematic adventures. Sure, we think of the movie's budget, but never the characters themselves.

Quora user, Kynan Eng, decided to take a look at some of those expenses. More specifically, he looked at how much characters from Matt Damon movies have collectively spent trying to save Matt Damon's characters. And Matt Damon is always in trouble.

Damon's movies, Courage Under Fire, Saving Private Ryan, Titan A.E., Syriana, Green Zone, Elysium, Interstellar, and The Martian, combine for an estimated $729 million in production budgets. Each features a Damon character in need of rescue. The cost of those combined rescues, based in 2015 currency, totals over $900 billion.

Here is how Kynan Eng broke it down:

Courage Under Fire (Gulf War 1 helicopter rescue): $300k
Saving Private Ryan (WW2 Europe search party): $100k
Titan A.E. (Earth evacuation spaceship): $200B
Syriana (Middle East private security return flight): $50k
Green Zone (US Army transport from Middle East): $50k
Elysium (Space station security deployment and damages): $100m
Interstellar (Interstellar spaceship): $500B
The Martian (Mars mission): $200B
TOTAL: $900B plus change
