Andy Serkis' vocal chords became a topic of national debate when the 88-second Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer released last November. As the motion-capture actor's gravely voice narrated the record-breaking trailer, many wondered what role Serkis might play in the upcoming film.

While Serkis hasn't revealed who he'll play yet, he did divulge a bit on that captivating voice. In a recent interview, Serkis recalled his bewilderment over the online debates arguing whether it was his voice, or actor Benedict Cumberbatch's, who provided the narration.

And when asked where those low octaves came from, Serkis joked about he was able to embody his dark and mysterious character.

"I don't know where it comes from," Serkis laughed in his discussion with Empire Magazine. "I think I'd had many late nights."

You can hear Serkis discuss Star Wars around the 5:20 mark.
