The CW has picked up Riverdale, the subversive television adaptation of Archie, the network announced at Comic-Con International: San Diego. The series was previously in production at Fox. Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl producer Greg Berlanti remains at the helm of the series, and Archie Comics chief creative officer Robert Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the pilot.

"When Greg and I started talking about bringing these characters to life, our first thought was that the best home for them would be the CW," Aguirre-Sacasa told Deadline. "It took a little longer for us to get there, but now that we're here, it's feeling terrific."

The television announcement is timed well with the recent debut of Archie #1, reimagining the Riverdale gang for the modern era.
