Avengers Assemble #1 is a new Marvel Comic, which arrived in comic book stores today. Avengers Assemble #1 stars the same Avengers team that will appear in the upcoming Avengers movie: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, and Hawkeye. Avengers Assemble is not a straight forward adaptation of the movie, but rather it takes place in regular Marvel Universe continuity. The first issue introduces a brand new Zodiac, which is a classic group of Avengers villains. While Avengers Assemble might not be directly based on the Avengers movie, Marvel is obviously trying to create a comic book that will be an easy jumping on point for new fans arising from the movie. Also, having the same superheroes making up the team isn't the only connection that Avengers Assemble has to The Avengers movie. In the comic, Hulk is sitting out in the desert minding his own business, when an army convoy happens by. The army convoy is attacked by a member of the Zodiac, and the Hulk goes to investigate. While most of the soldiers go nameless, one goes out of his way to announce himself as General Whedon, which is a tribute to Avengers movie director Joss Whedon. Avengers Assemble is written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Mark Bagley. The Avengers movie is directed by Joss Whedon and will arrive in theaters on May 4, 2012.
