One of video games' most fantastically strange franchises could be making a comeback. Bandai Namco has registered the trademark for Tap My Katamari with the European Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market.

There are no further details on the game available at this time, but it seems a safe bet that this will be a new entry in the Katamari series that began in 2004, with the PlayStation 2 game Katamari Damacy. The "Tap" portion of the title may signal a move to mobile devices.

The game has players taking control of the Prince, who must restore the the stars and heavenly bodies to the sky after they are destroyed by his father, the King of All Cosmos. He achieves this by rolling larger and larger balls, called Katamari, made of random objects, vehicles, animals, people, and mountains – basically anything - until it is big enough to become a star.

The surreal series was created by Keita Takahashi, who departed after the first sequel, We Love Katamari. The most recent game in the series was 2012's Touch My Katamari on the PS Vita.
