Two of the year's most acclaimed comic book films, Guardians of the Galaxy and Birdman, grabbed nominations from the Costume Designer's Guild today.

The Guild, which awards the best costumes in Hollywood films each year, will announce the winners on February 17th during its 17th annual awards show. Though Guardians and Birdman are both nominees, they will be competing in different categories. Birdman is up for an award in "Excellence in Contemporary Film," while Guardians of the Galaxy has a shot at the "Excellence in Fantasy Film" award.

Guardians faces stiff competition with equally fantastical nominees including The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay-Part 1, Into The Woods, and Maleficent. Meanwhile, Birdman will tackle Boyhood, Gone Girl, Interstellar, and Wild. That award could be anyone's prize, but it's tough imagining any of the films (even Interstellar) besting Birdman's spectacular riff on the nineties-era Batman suit.

Guardians of the Galaxy's costume design nomination marks its second accolade of the day, after receiving a nod from the Writer's Guild of America for Best Adapted Screenplay.
