Box Office: Insurgent Matches Divergent With $54M Opening Weekend

On Friday, Insurgent grossed $21.3M which was a bit shy of Divergent's $21.8M Friday. Then on Saturday, Insurgent scooped up $19.875M, which was a tad bit more than Divergent's $19.85M last year. Based on these figures, Lionsgate expects Insurgent to finish the weekend with $54M, which is 1% off of Divergent's $54.6M opening weekend.

Meanwhile, Disney's Cinderella will finish in a strong second place with $34.4M weekend. It was only down 47% from last week and now has a 10-day cume of $122M. Sean Penn's R-rated action film The Gunman bombed. It'll finish in fourth place with only $5M debut. The film "drew an older male crowd with 83% over 25 and 61% guys."
