Box Office: The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug Tops Anchorman 2

Leading into this weekend's box office, there was quite a bit of debate over if The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug or Anchorman 2 would wind up at the top of the box office charts. After a strong start on Wednesday, many had been predicting that Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues would emerge as the box office champion. However, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has beaten Anchorman 2 and come out on top of the box office for the second weekend in a row. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug pulled in $31.4 million over the weekend to take the number one ranking at the domestic box office. In comparison. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues took in a solid but not overwhelming $26.4 million to easily take the number two spot. Anchorman 2 has made $40 million over its five day run so far. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has reached $127.5 million total at the U.S. box office since its release. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug also became the 31st film of the year to top the $100 million mark at the domestic box office.
