This means that Captain America 3 and Batman vs. Superman will be sharing an opening weekend at the box office, at least as it stands now. ComicBook.com reached out to Warner Bros. regarding rumors that Batman vs. Superman's release date would be moved up to April 29, but Warner Bros. has, so far, not responded. Marvel claimed May 6, 2016 as one of their movie release dates last year, though they did not reveal which film they would be releasing. Batman vs. Superman was later pushed back from its original 2015 released date and was rescheduled to also open on May 6, 2016. Earlier this week, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige stated that Marvel had no plans to alter their schedule based on Batman vs. Superman's move. The rumors concerning a second date change for Batman vs. Superman began circulating after Feige's comments were made. It's unclear whether Captain America 3 was always planned to be the May 6, 2016 film release or not. It is possible that Marvel Studios was simply camping out the date without firm plans as to which of their films would be debuting then. Or, perhaps a different film was originally planned for the May 6 release and Marvel decided to go with Captain America 3 specifically because of the increased competition from Warner Bros. On the other side, Warner Bros. may have been waiting to see which film Marvel would be releasing on that date to make a final decision about moving Batman vs. Superman's release forward. Whether planned from the start or not, the fact that Marvel is putting Captain America 3 up against Batman vs. Superman only further emphasizes how impressed they are with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
