It took 66 days, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier has finally passed The Lego Movie to become the highest grossing film of 2014 at the U.S. box office so far. Over the weekend, Captain America: The Winter Soldier reached a U.S. box office total gross of $255,886,000, beating The Lego Movie's total gross of $255,859,000 year to date.

Captain America: The Winter is now in first place at the U.S. box office year to date, followed by The Lego Movie, which has dropped to the #2 position. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in third place at the U.S. box office with $194 million, and X-Men: Days of Future Past is in fourth place at the U.S. box office with $189 million. Because The Lego Movie features Lego versions of a number of DC Comics superheroes, it can be said that the top four movies at the U.S. box office year-to-date all feature superheroes.
