Christopher Nolan Says Never Say Never To Revisting Superheroes

Christopher Nolan, the visionary director behind The Dark Knight Trilogy, spoke to Timeout Chicago ahead of the release of his latest film, Interstellar, into theaters.

Interstellar is decidedly not a superhero movie, and Timeout asked Nolan the question every fan of The Dark Knight would like answered: Would Nolan ever return to the superhero genre?

"I think I had a great experience with the superhero genre and got to explore a lot of things," said Nolan, "but it was a good decade of my life and I find it hard to imagine returning to it. But never say never."

A decade is a pretty long time to tell, essentially, a single Batman story. It's also important to note that Nolan worked so well for Batman because the character lends himself so well to Nolan's much grounded take on the genre. There are only so many other characters that would lend themselves as well to Nolan's sensibility, so a return for Nolan would likely be either a very specific calling, or a departure from the director's distinctive style.

Interstellar opens in theaters November 7.
