Following THQ's liquidation, fans of the popular Darksiders series were concerned as to what would happened to the apocalyptic combat title. Nordic Games ultimately acquired the Darksiders series back in 2014, but the developer has done little with the franchise aside from releasing an ultimate edition for Darksiders 2. And, now, it looks like the original Darksiders title is getting a similar treatment.

Nordic Games reportedly announced a remaster for Darksiders would be hitting current generation consoles during Gamepolis 2016 in Malaga, Spain. So, while the news sure doesn't mean we'll be getting Darksiders 3 anytime soon, but the announcement does open the door to potential titles for the future. But, for now, gamers can expect Darksiders to reign down upon the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Wii U according to Nextn.

Currently, there's no official release date set for the remaster, but sources have speculated the game may be ready for digital/physical sales in October. Nordic Games also didn't say whether the remaster would become available for the PC, but it's likely the studio will confirm that version closer to the title's release.

Originally released back in January 2010, Darksiders allows gamers to take control of War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The game follows War as he suddenly arrives on Earth during the apocalypse's start to learn that his fellow Horsemen had not been summoned. The group had been sealed away once The Charred Council had mediated a truce between the Kingdom of Heaven and Hell. However, War's unexpected arrival prompts the Council to accuse the Horsemen of deliberately disrupting peace between the two Kingdoms, subsequently aligning War with Hell. Clearly unhappy with being slandered, War tells the Council he will find the people who forced him from his seal, leading him on a very bloody journey through a future, decimated Earth.

Are you guys excited for the Darksiders remaster? Let us know whether you think this might be Nordic's first step towards creating Darksiders 3?
