Roger Corman is ready to bring back his much loved Death Race 2000 franchise for another go-round. Titled Death Race 2050, Corman will be a producer on the film, while G.J. Echternkamp will be directing.
For those who aren't familiar with Death Race 2000, it starred David Carradine as Frankenstein, a half human half machine hybrid, who took part in the much-celebrated death races that gave you extra points based on brutally taking down your opponents. The sequel doesn't stray too far from the original roots. Here is the official synopsis.
In the not-too-distant future, America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government that keeps the masses placated with violent virtual-reality entertainment. The event of the year is the Death Race, where a motley assortment of drivers compete in a cross-country road race, scoring points for running down pedestrians and killing each other. The reigning champion and popular favorite is half-man, half-machine Frankenstein — but little does he know he's taken on a rebel spy as his co-pilot.
This time around Frankenstein will be played by Manu Bennet (Arrow), and will also star Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange) as The Chariman. As for Corman, he is truly excited to bring this franchise back to the screen

Death Race 2050 will be released direct to DVD sometime this year.
