Deathlok, the cyborg superhero/super-spy played by J. August Richards on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will be getting his own ongoing, monthly series in October.

Who Is Jake Ellis? co-creator Nathan Edmonson will write, and former Captain America artist Mike Perkins will draw the series, which will spin out of the events of Original Sin's sister series Original Sins, which Edmonson and Perkins are working on now.

"Deathlok is an opportunity to turn the distinction between ally and foe within the Marvel universe right on its head," Edmondson told THR. "Wrapped up in bleeding-edge tech, our Deathlok series will take what readers remember of the iconic anti-hero and what viewers love now of the character portrayed by J. August Richards in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and dive in with a twisting story of espionage and family."

Since its inception, the Deathlok concept has been featured in two limited series that bookended a pair of ongoing series for a total of around 50 issues. Because there have been a number of Deathlok "subjects," though, it's rarely the same main character twice.

The current iteration of the character has been redesigned to more closely align with the look of Mike Peterson on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.with less obvious "damage" to his face, which in previous iterations has looked dessicated, rather than just scarred.

Rather than Peterson, though, Edmonson revealed that the series will revolve around Henry Hayes, whom he described as "at war with the machine of war and the machine of global enterprise — and the machine inside him that makes him a lethal, unstoppable one man army."

Saying that the new series will be Manchurian Candidate meets RoboCop, Edmonson explained that the new Deathlok "is a father and a medic who doesn't know that he's a machine, a killer behind some of the sweeping changes in geopolitics."

The title launches in October.
