Disney Infinity 3.0 Marvel Battlegrounds Pre-Order, Release Date Announced

Disney Infinity 3.0 puts the focus on Marvel Super Heroes once more this year with a brand-new Play Set. Marvel Battlegrounds will hit stores March 15, 2016, and it's available for pre-order today.

Fans who pre-order the game in the U.S. will get the new Play Set piece, the new Captain America: The First Avenger character figure, and a Disney Infinity 2.0 figure as a free bonus; so if you don't have the full collection from 2.0 yet, or just want to have another for display (and the additional XP bonus in-game, of course), that's a way to get an extra one.

Battlegrounds is a completely new style of Play Set, as four players can fight each other in an arcade brawler. You'll also fight in a specially crafted story for the game across 12 levels in eight arenas, from Wakanda to Knowhere to the Moon and beyond. The Play Set has the largest number of playable characters of any released so far - you can play using any Marvel characters released for Disney Infinity, including all the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, and Spider-Man characters from 2.0, plus the new 3.0 Marvel characters like Hulkbuster Iron Man, Ultron, and the other soon-to-be-released characters.

If the general idea of the game, heroes fighting heroes, sounds familiar, that's because it's also the theme of Captain America: Civil War, which hits theaters in May. The new Play Set carries a label from the movie, further indicating the link.
