Popular video game franchises continue to make their transition to the table top, and the latest game to do so is DOOM, courtesy of Fantasy Flight Games.
Fantasy Flight's portfolio consists of titles like Star Wars: X-Wing, Star Wars: Imperial Assault, and the Game of Thrones Board & Card Games, so they're incredibly experienced working with licensed IP and getting the most out of them. They're approaching DOOM the same way. In fact, DOOM The Board Game is being designed by Jonathan Ying, who was one of the designers responsible for Imperial Assault.
In DOOM you'll take control of a unit of elite United Aerospace Corporation marines, with the aim of protecting the Corporation's headquarters on Mars from the demonic threat. You'll have a series of missions that you'll tackle with two to four players, and each one will come with special objectives.
This actually isn't the first time that Fantasy Flight has worked with DOOM. There was a previous version of the game in 2004, but it differed greatly in the mechanics department. Still, there are some elements that are being retained for this game. Fans of this year's video game version will recognize the implementation of Glory Kills, which are graphic executions that allow the player to recover some health.
The game will come with thirty-seven miniatures, which will be split into four marines and thirty-three demons. It also includes two operations, titled Black Bishop and Exodus, which feature six missions for players to run through.
Fantasy Flight is eyeing a fourth quarter release for DOOM The Board Game, but it will be playable at this year's Gen Con. You can catch a glimpse of the miniatures in the gallery.0comments
