Allegiant

The final book in the Divergent trilogy, titled Allegiant, will be split into two film adaptations, according to Deadline. The Divergent trilogy of young adult novels by Veronica Roth include Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant. The film adaptation of Divergent hit theaters in March and Insurgent is scheduled for release on March 20, 2015. Allegiant, Part 1 will arrive in theaters on the pre-split release date of March 18, 2016. Allegiant, Part 2 will follow on March 24, 2017. The two Allegiant films will not be jointly filmed. Splitting the final entry of a popular franchise into two films is a pretty common move in Hollywood these days, beginning with Warner Bros. split of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows into two films. Divergent's studio, Lionsgate, has already seen success using this tactic with the Twilight finale, Breaking Dawn, and is using it again to cap off The Hunger Games by splitting Mockingjay into two movies. More films based on a popular franchise generally translates into increased profit for the studio, so this is hardly a shocking move given the box office success of Divergent, which has grossed $117 million domestically and $139 million internationally at the box office in three weeks. In Allegiant, Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton venture into the world outside of the fence and are taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.
