New images from the next episode of Game of Thrones, “The Lion and the Rose,” have been released.
“The Lion and the Rose” refers to King Joffrey Baratheon (House Lannister’s sigil is a lion and, though he doesn’t know it, Joffrey is pure Lannister) and Margaery Tyrell (House Tyrell’s sigil is a rose). The episode will feature their long anticipated royal wedding, which will make Margaery the queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Joffrey was originally betrothed to Sansa Stark, but, when the War of Five Kings broke out, all members of House Stark were labelled traitors and the wedding plans were postponed. House Tyrell were instrumental in saving King’s Landing from being sacked by Stannis Baratheon during the Battle of the Blackwater and were rewarded with Margaery’s betrothal to Joffrey in Sansa’s stead.
Speaking of Stannis, there’s also an image of him with Ser Davos and Melisandre, as well as one of Ygritte, so we’ll be seeing more of them in this episode as well.
Game of Thrones, “The Lion and the Rose,” airs Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
