The DreamWorks live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell is moving forward again, with writer Jonathan Herman signed on to rework the script, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The movie's previous drafts were written by William Wheeler and Jamie Moss.

Herman's recent release Straight Outta Compton was critically acclaimed and a financial success, and saw the writer doing a similar rewrite of that screenplay. He has also written drafts of remakes of Scarface and The Birds.

Ghost in the Shell will star Scarlett Johansson as the cyborg cop Motoko Kusanagi (um, that name will probably change for the film), the head of Section 9, a task force meant to combat other futuristic threats. The movie comes from the manga and anime series (and films) before it, originated by Masamune Shirow.

Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) will direct the film, produced by Avi and Ari Arad and Steven Paul.
