From the very first moment Gotham started airing on Fox, Batman fans wanted to know when The Joker would be introduced. You got the origin of The Penguin, The Riddler, Catwoman, and even Poison Ivy, but where is Batman's most famous foe, The Joker? According to Gotham's executive producer Bruno Heller a glimpse of The Joker's story will come by the end of the first season. "We've said you're going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America -- nobody wants to wait," Heller told TVGuide.com with a laugh. "So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it -- a little tap on the door."

We know on the February 23rd episode of Gotham, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) will track down the Red Hood Gang. When he mentions "scratching the surface" of The Joker's story it could be teasing this episode.

In the comics, before The Joker was The Clown Prince Of Crime, he was the leader of the Red Hood Gang. They were one of the first groups of villains to battle Bruce Wayne after he became Batman. During one encounter with the Caped Crusader, the Red Hood leader falls into a vat of chemicals. Lucky for him, his Red Hood had a breathing apparatus that allowed him to survive the sea of toxins. The bad news, those same toxins left him horribly disfigured, and thus, The Joker was born.

Heller also teased when and why Edward Nygma (Corey Michael Smith) begins to go bad. "Nygma is someone who becomes the villain, and we see that journey begin in the second half of the season," Heller said. "What motivates people to do things is oftentimes love,"

Gotham airs Monday nights at 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
