It looks like Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn's horizons are broadening after the incredible, surprising success of his cosmic comic book film. After his directorial debut with cult hit, Slither, Gunn directed a handful of films before reaching his all-time high with the critically acclaimed Guardians. That success may now be playing a part in the announcement on Gunn's Facebook page, that he has a new project in the works.

Gunn posted the news with a synopsis on his Facebook page. "I'm incredibly excited to announce that we're commencing production on a new film, The Belco Experiment, from my own script. The story revolves around the American Belco company in South America which is mysteriously sealed off at the beginning of a work day, and its employees are ordered to kill each other or be killed themselves. This starts an escalation of violence, where we discover the true nature of each and every Belco employee."

Gunn won't be on board to direct the film, but instead Greg McLean will helm the production. McLean, who has directed the Wolf Creek films, will be joined by producer Peter Safran. Safran's best known productions are Annabelle and The Conjuring, two terrifying films. MGM will finance the project, which is currently in pre-production and set to film in Bogota, Colombia in June of next year.

A few more bits of information can be found in the comment section of Gunn's post. He answered a few questions from Facebook users, telling us that the film will have a theatrical release, it's not a found footage film, and his first film, Slither, came out exactly 9 years ago today.

James Gunn is directing Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which is set for release on May 5, 2017.
