Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hasn't been shy in the past about the way he wants to approach the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Superhero movies can't all be Iron Man, he's explained (I'm paraphrasing), otherwise Iron Man stops being special. There needs to be a diversity of content and approach that keeps fans coming back for more, even if they're tired of a particular character or way of doing things. That seems to be the attitude that he and the rest of the studio are bringing to bear in a big way over the course of the Phase Two and Phase Three movies. "For a long time we have wanted to bring to the screen an adventure set entirely in space," he told Best Movie (translated from Italian). "We liked it right from the start--the idea of making a movie based on a comic unknown by most people, and presenting the new superheroes in one film. Although it is set in another part of the universe, a human will be in the role of superhero Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt. There will be a lot of characters: a sexy warrior, an animated tree, even a raccoon with a gun. It is a unique franchise and we are happy that it is so different from what we have done so far." That same attitude of enthusiasm for the different and the experimental came through when he was asked which movie he was most looking forward to; the studio executive said, "Dr. Strange! I love the aura of mystery that surrounds this superhero and the magical world that surrounds him. We've never faced anything like this and there is a lot of material that we could exploit. I would love to also see new superheroes in the ranks of the Avengers. We shall see!" Of course, he doesn't have to "see." He probably knows that Whedon expects to add more characters for Avengers 2--something he's said in interviews before.
