Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Movie To Be Directed By Phil Lord And Chris Miller

The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will helm a Star Wars Anthology movie featuring Han Solo. As Lucasfilm officially announced, the film focus on Han Solo's early days, and his path towards becoming the galaxy's top smuggler, thief, and scoundrel.

Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan will pen the script. Lawrence Kasdan is known for writing other Star Wars entries including The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens.

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us," Lord and Miller said in a joint statement. "This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

In an earlier report from The Hollywood Reporter, it was clarified that the Han Solo film is not the project that Fantastic Four director Josh Trank was originally attached to, before parting ways with the studio.

“We’re so excited to be working with Chris and Phil, who will bring a fresh new dimension to the Star Wars universe,” added the Kasdans in another joint statement. “They’re two of the smartest, funniest and most original filmmakers around, and the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy.”

The Han Solo movie would be one more on an already packed schedule for Lord and Miller. They’ve also been attached to Warner Bros. Flash movie and Marvel’s animated Spider-Man film, on top of their continuing commitment to the Jump Street and Lego Movie franchises.

The Han Solo film is slated for a May 25, 2018 release date.
