David Slade will serve as exeutive producer on Starz's American Gods, and will direct the pilot and several additional episodes of the first season, according to Deadline. Slade previously worked with American Gods showrunner Bryan Fuller on Hannibal.

American Gods is currently in pre-production. The series is based on the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novel by Neil Gaiman, and follows ex-convict Shadow Moon as he take a job for the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, which kicks off a road trip through the hidden world of myth and legend in modern day America.

The project received a straight-to-series order in June. Gaiman will write several episodes of the show's first season.

American Gods will premier eon Starz in 2017.
