Happy birthday, Anne Hathaway! The actress turns 34 years old today.

Born in November 1982, Hathaway was raised in New York by her parents Gerald and Kathleen before the family move to New Jersey. The actress and her siblings were surrounded by theater from a young age as Kathleen was a stage performer. Since she was a child, Hathaway wanted to follower in her mother's footsteps and appeared in numerous plays.

Hathaway's professional career began when she was a teenager. She made her film debut in The Princess Diaries, a teenage rom-com based on Meg Cabot's bestselling novels. She then went on to star in films like Nicholas Nickelby and Ella Enchanted before she transitioned into more mature roles in projects like Brokeback Mountain.

In 2006, Hathaway then starred in the film The Devil Wears Prada alongside Meryl Streep before she was cast in Becoming Jane and Sweeney Todd.
