Google has launched a fun little trend app called "Frightgeist," letting fans see what costumes are most popular across the U.S. on both a national and local level. The top five national trends aren't too surprising, though their order might be.
Harley Quinn comes in at number one, the top searched costume in the U.S. This, still more than nine months ahead of the release of Suicide Squad, where the character will make her live-action and big screen debut, may come as a bit of a surprise. The new look for the character, as played by Margot Robbie, has been extremely popular already at comic conventions this year, especially since the trailer debut at San Diego Comic-con.
Batman is the only other comic book character to appear in the top five by name, bringing up the rear at #5. Star Wars, Superhero, and Pirate round it out with slots 2, 3, and 4 respectively. So if anyone wants to wear the top five costumes all at once, start working on your Harley Quinn Star Wars Superhero Pirate Batman costume now.
Looking at some of the local trends, Colorado loves hippies (goes with their - ahem - cash crop), Arizona loves Wonder Woman, and Tennessee is all about Monster High and Firefighters. Can't wait to see which Monster High costume our E-i-C Jim wears to the office.
