Archie Comics has released a first look at today's Archie #656, including the introduction of Harper, Veronica's physically-disabled cousin fron out of town.

"Harper is the latest in a long line of characters we've introduced to make Riverdale feel like a city in today's world," said Archie Comics Co-CEO/Publisher Jon Goldwater at the time the issue was announced. "Harper is, first and foremost, a funny, fashionable and witty teenager. The fact that she's disabled is only one part of her story, and we're excited to welcome her to Riverdale and Archie Comics."

Written and drawn by Archie icon Dan Parent, Harper's introduction is just the most recent stab at making Riverdale more inclusive and relevant, including introducing gay characters including Kevin Keller, and inviting guests like the stars of Glee (for which Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote), President Obama and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

Soon, fans will get a story from Girls creator Lena Dunham.

You can check out the preview pages, as well as the solicitation text for the issue, below.

ARCHIE #656

"Let's Hear it for Harper"

Veronica's cousin Harper is coming to Riverdale, where she's considering attending Riverdale High. When she arrives, they see something they weren't expecting: she is physically disabled. However it doesn't take long to see that her disabilities don't hold her back, but instead add to her dynamic personality! Harper teaches the gang how something that you think can hold you back can make you that much stronger—all while being decked out in the most fashion forward wheelchair ever seen!
