Henry Cavill On Mixed Man Of Steel Reviews & Character Development In Batman V. Superman

Zack Snyder's Man of Steel earned a robust $668M at the worldwide box office in 2013, but it only received a lukewarm reception from critics. The film's star, Henry Cavill, is not oblivious to that and addressed it a recent interview.

"The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I've read, was fairly mixed," Cavill told Cineplex during a phone interview.. "Everyone I've spoken to enjoyed the movie, but [not] unlike if you're going to meet a stranger in the street, they're not going to badmouth you to your face."

A bone of contention with many viewers was all of the collateral damage that was inflicted upon Metropolis during Superman's lengthy and destructive battle with General Zod. That issue is being addressed in a very clever way as we've seen in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailers that it is one of the major catalysts that fuels Bruce Wayne's hate for Superman.

Oddly enough, Cavill doesn't quite see it that way. "There's no intentional move, I don't think, in Batman v. Superman to address any issues that people had with Man of Steel," he said. "It's just a continuation of that storyline and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters."

After two films, Cavill still enjoys sifting through the "wonderfully rich" layers of Superman. "There's so far you can go with it; if you really, really delve deep into the character, there's so much you can do," he explained. "It's just about exploring it within the vehicles and finding what you want to do. He's going to have some very interesting character development in this one."

In Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis's most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before.
