Hollywood Legend Lauren Bacall Dead at 89

Lauren Bacall, one of Hollywood's most accomplished leading ladies and a show business icon, has died. She was 89.

Bacall most recently appeared in an episode of Family Guy and was rumored to be working on director Tom Konkle's Trouble is My Business, but is best known for her impressive body of work during the '40s, '50s and '60s. Her films, including The Big Sleep, Key Largo and How to Marry a Millionaire, made her a household name and along with her husband Humphrey Bogart, she was half of arguably the most beloved screen duo of all time.

Earlier this year, Bacall's death was one of a number of celebrity death hoaxes that made the rounds on social media; this time, sadly, the reports were confirmed via Twitter by the Bogart Estate.

Bacall, who starred primarily in more staid roles, would take on some genre fare toward the end of her life, including working on two projects -- the animated Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King and the live-action The Forger -- with Heroes star Hayden Panettiere. In the former, she also starred along with The Hunger Games's Josh Hutcherson and Spider-Man 2's Alfred Molina. She recently lent her voice to Ernest and Celestine, providing one of the English-language dubs for the French animated film.

Probably her earliest and most memorable "genre" work remains a role in 1990's Stephen King adaptation Misery.

Bogart died in 1957 after the pair had starred in five movies together and been married for twelve years. Following a brief engagement to Frank Sinatra, Bacall was married to actor and filmmaker Jason Robards for eight years in the '60s. She is survived by three children from the two marriages, including actor Sam Robards.

In addition to a Golden Globe Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (the Oscars), Bacall was referenced in songs by The Clash, Madonna and Bon Jovi.
