PokeCoins are king in Pokemon GO. Players can use PokeCoins to purchase items in Pokemon GO, ranging from PokeBalls to Lure Modules that can be attached to PokeStops to attract Pokemon for all players. The easiest way to get PokeCoins are to buy them with real world money, as you can get between 100 and 14,500 PokeCoins by spending money in the game. However, there is a free way to get PokeCoins, provided you're a skilled enough trainer.

Players can receive a "gym defender" bonus in Pokemon GO by having a Pokemon successfully guard a gym for approximately 21 hours. Players receive 10 PokeCoins for every gym they successfully defend, with a limit of 10 gyms per day. 100 PokeCoins translates to $0.99 in real world cash, which might be better spent on Pokemon cards or saving up for Pokemon Sun and Moon.

The easiest way to capture a gym for your team is to collect some friends and battle at the gym at the same time, as each defeat will quickly lower that gym's prestige and leave it vulnerable for capture. Just make sure you leave your strongest Pokemon behind to guard it, as opposing teams will immediately try to wrest the gym for control and take the gym defender bonus for themselves.

Pokemon GO is out in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
