For fans of movie monsters, creatures and other things that sometimes go bump in the night, there's good news! IDW has announced that it will be resurrecting the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland in printed form. Around since the late 1950's, FMoF helped readers see the magic that went into making films, specifically those of the monster variety. It was key in giving readers the details about makeup tricks, effects and the people behind the magic, such as Ray Harryhausen. The print magazine will be available beginning in the summer of 2010 and will appear quarterly. Michael Heisler will take over editorial duties for the publication. With more than twenty years in the comics industry, Heisler has a definite appreciation for the magazine. "FM was far and away my favorite magazine when I was a kid, and there has been nothing quite like it since," said Heisler. "Our goal is to update that magic for a modern audience, with coverage of current horror in all its forms, while continuing to pay tribute to the classic films that started it all," said Heisler. IDW's Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall was also thrilled with the partnership saying, "Famous Monsters is partially responsible for my lifelong love of horror, so to be involved in helping the magazine relaunch itself into the dreams-or nightmares-of new generations of fans is amazingly gratifying to me." Famousmonsters.com is still a vital portal to all things horror and monster related, so explore this as you await the magazine's launch!
