Neon Punch

is reporting that Chinese actor Andy Lau (whose name you can see in the headline up there), star of the brilliant Infernal Affairs (remade in the US as The Departed) and a Chinese remake of the Mel Gibson rom-com What Women Want, is in talks to join the cast of Iron Man 3 when it makes its way to China. After initially reporting that Lau would likely play The Mandarin--a character director Shane Black has specifically said would not appear in the movie--Neon Punch pulled back, saying that the actor was actually in line to play an old friend of Tony Stark's who will bring an army of armored Chinese heroes to Iron Man's side--against The Mandarin. Take from all of that what you will, as there's no specific source cited for the information. If he is to play a friend to Tony, it's likely he'll be sharing screentime with Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow and, if all of our morning Iron Man 3 rumors are to be believed, newcomer Jessica Chastain as well. Iron Man 3 will be in theaters next May.
