Creator J.K. Rowling has responded to the Internet outcry concerning the casting of the three leads in the upcoming stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Certain fans were bothered by the casting of Noma Dumezweni, a black woman, as Hermione Granger. Rowling was pointed out that, while white actress Emma Watson played Hermione in the films, there is nothing in the canon of the books that explicitly describes Hermione as white, black, or otherwise, and stated that she "loves black Hermione."

Dumezweni will be joined on stage by Paul Thornley as Ron Weasley, now Hermione's husband, and Jamie Parker as Harry Potter.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens at London's West End in late May.
