Jack Reacher 2 begins filming this November and is expected in theaters late 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

2012's Jack Reacher, which was written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation) and starred Tom Cruise (Edge of Tomorrow), wasn't the tentpole Paramount and Skydance had envisioned. It struggled at the domestic box office with only $80.1M grossed, but overseas it flourished with $138.3M.

Cruise will reprise his role as a drifer and former U.S. Army Military Police Corps officer, but this time he will be directed by Ed Zwick, who directed Cruise in 2003's The Last Samurai.

Jack Reacher films are based on the popular book series written by British author Lee Childs.

Jack Reacher 2 is expected in theaters in late 2016.

Jack Reacher (2012) - One morning in an ordinary town, five people are shot dead in a seemingly random attack. All evidence points to a single suspect: an ex-military sniper who is quickly brought into custody. The man's interrogation yields one statement: Get Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise). Reacher, an enigmatic ex-Army investigator, believes the authorities have the right man but agrees to help the sniper's defense attorney (Rosamund Pike). However, the more Reacher delves into the case, the less clear-cut it appears.
