James Wan has been developing a MacGyver reboot and was originally set to direct its pilot, but he had to pull out due to a scheduling conflict with post-production work on The Conjuring 2.

Director David Von Ancken was hired to helm the pilot. While his MacGyver pilot was good enough to get a series order at CBS, it was far from perfect. The original pilot was tossed and Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter Lenkov was brought in to give the material a fresh take and pen a new script.

And now that Wan's latest horror film is out in theaters, he has enough free time to direct the new and improved MacGyver pilot.

As for Wan, the talented filmmaker has been churning out hit movie ever since he unveiled the first Saw movie in 2004, which started it on a path to becoming the highest grossing horror franchise of all time. Wan's also well known for Insidious (2011), The Conjuring (2011), Furious 7 (2015), and The Conjuring 2 (2016), which recently opened in North America with $40.4 million. In the near future, Wan will begin directing Jason Momoa's Aquaman solo film for Warner Brothers.

A reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Lucas Till) who creates a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton (George Eads). Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip. Peter Lenkov, Craig O'Neill, James Wan, Golden Globe Award winner Henry Winkler, Lee Zlotoff and Michael Clear are executive producers for CBS Television Studios in association with Lionsgate.

MacGyver will air Fridays 8/7c this fall on CBS.
