Jared Leto Reportedly Up For Joker Role In Suicide Squad Movie

Jared Leto The Joker

At one time, Jared Leto was rumored for the role of Doctor Strange, but with it looking like Benedict Cumberbatch might have that role locked up, reports are now placing Leto as being up for a role at Marvel's distinguished competition.

According to a report on TheWrap, Leto is considering a role in the DC Comics movie Suicide Squad. According to their source, the role might be that of The Joker. There have already been a number of other high profile celebrities that have been linked to being up for roles in the project, including Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie. Jesse Eisenberg is also reportedly reprising his role as Lex Luthor from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice in Suicide Squad.

In another tidbit of news, The Wrap also claims that Ryan Gosling was initially up for the The Joker role, but he wouldn't sign the multiple picture contract that would have been required.

If the report is accurate, then Leto would be the first actor to play The Joker in a live action movie since Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for playing the role in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

Suicide Squad is being directed by David Ayer and produced by Charles Roven. Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on August 5, 2016.
