Were you one of those people that pondered where Hawkeye was during Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Did it keep you up at nights? Get some sleep because Jeremy Renner promises that the answer to that question will come in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

"You'll find out in this movie where he's been," Renner told Fandango. "It's actually a really wonderful secret reveal. It's pretty awesome."

And how does Renner feel about S.H.I.E.L.D. being dismantled by the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier?"My take is that it's probably a good thing," Renner said. "[Hawkeye] is kind of a loner anyway, and he's a team player only 'cause he sort of has to be. He's not really a company man. Captain America can be that guy. In [Age of Ultron] you'll understand why [Hawkeye] thinks the way he thinks. And with S.H.I.E.L.D., I don't think it was ever really that important to him. [Nick] Fury's awesome. He likes Fury and will do anything for him, but he's not a company man. He doesn't punch in and punch out."

In the first Avengers, we learned that Hawkeye and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) have a backstory that intertwines, but we didn't get any real details. And then people noticed that Black Widow was wearing an arrow-shaped pendant in Captain America: Winter Soldier. "They have a long history together, and more of that is revealed as well," Renner revealed.

In the first film, Hawkeye spent a good portion of it being mind-controlled by Loki, but in the second Avengers you can expect a deeper understaning of who he is. "There's a lot more of him to deal with versus the hypnotized version of him," Renner said.

A good chunk of Hawkeye's screen time will be spent with newcomers Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). "They're great characters, and my character and them have a lot to do together," Renner explained. "It's a little blurry on where they stand, which I appreciate. I'm sort of policing them to see if they're worthy or not, if they're good or bad guys. I question them a lot."

As for making an appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Renner says he would only if there was "a good rhyme or reason for it." Get on that, Marvel!

Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters May 1.
