As part of yesterday's interview with the fan site Voices From Krypton, JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time director Giancarlo Volpe revealed that the direct-to-DVD release that will hit Target stores on Tuesday will feature a cameo appearance by the Wonder Twins, comic-relief characters invented for Super Friends. "I was snobby about that show even when I was a kid. I think that was the future animator in me, but I didn't like how limited the animation was, I thought the storylines were too oversimplified, we watched it because we had nothing else," Volpe said of Super Friends, an episode of which the writer updated and modernized for the direct-to-video film. "It was better than nothing. We tuned in every weekend, but we sort of made fun of it. That was a reservation I had when they asked me to reboot that show [for this film], because I don't have as fond memories of that show as most people do. I would never say what we did was that much more sophisticated. It's still a young demographic. It's funnier, it's a little sillier, but we modernized it. I would like to think if you're willing to 'live' in a world where time travel is possible and there's a talking gorilla with telekenesis, then you'll buy the things that happen in this movie." Asked about whether that silliness reaches as far as Marvin, Wendy and the Wonder Dog, Volpe said, "It doesn't go that far, but there is a cameo by those guys. It's very subtle, but it's just a nod to them."
