After a three-decade television hiatus, John Travolta is set to make his long awaited return on the American Horror Story spinoff, American Crime Story.

In the new series Travolta will play O.J. Simpson's defense attorney Robert Shapiro in an anthology that will focus on the famous trial for its first season, MTV reports.

An FX release statement explains how ACS will examine "the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt."

Travolta will join a cast that will include AHS alum Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian and Cuba Gooding Jr. as Simpson himself.

Travolta will also serve as producer for the new series.

American Crime Story will be Travolta's first regular television role since his stint on the 1975-1979 series, Welcome Back Kotter.
