Gnomeo & Juliet was a surprise hit in 2011, grossing $194M at the worldwide box office, and today Paramount Animation and MGM officially announced it's getting a sequel, which is titled Sherlock Gnomes and the title role will be voiced by Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp.
The original starred James McAvoy as Gnomeo and Emily Blunt as Juliet. Both of them will return for the sequel. The plot of sequel involves a string of garden gnome disappearances occur in London, when Gnomeo and Juliet look to legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes to solve the case.
Kelly Asbury directed the original, but he's not returning for the sequel. In his stead will be John Stevenson, who directed Kung Fu Panda. The script was penned by Ben Zazove (Captain Planet).
