According to Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, This Is 40), if you doubt Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot will be anything less than great — which many have after seeing the trailers — you're more than likely a supporter of Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.

"I would assume there's a very large crossover of people who are doubtful Ghostbusters will be great and people excited about the Donald Trump candidacy. I would assume they are the exact same people," Apatow told Uproxx. "That movie is made by the great Paul Feig and stars the funniest people on Earth, so I couldn't be more excited. I think people have paid too much attention to just some angry trolls. And it will be judged on its own greatness. I don't think anything really matters the way you think it does. The movie comes out, and it will be great, and people will just be happy to have it. It's not like anybody really cares about a couple of idiots who hold onto the idea that things never evolve. I always think, you know, we have our past and if you can come up with a new, cool way to do something, then that's exciting and hopefully it will make a lot of people happy."

Of course, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Apatow would come to the defense of Ghostbusters, as he has worked with Feig on a number of projects in the past, such as Freaks and Geeks, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Bridesmaids.

Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they're here to save the world!

The film is directed by Paul Feig (The Heat, Bridesmaids), written by Feig and Katie Dippold, and produced by Ivan Reitman and Amy Pascal. Feig, Jessie Henderson, Tom Pollock, Joe Medjuck, Ali Bell, Michele Imperato Stabile, and Dan Aykroyd are its executive producers. The cast features Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Charles Dance, Michael Kenneth Williams and Chris Hemsworth.

Ghostbusters is due in theaters July 15, 2016.
